I LOVE lemon water.

Bonjour,

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I love coffee, I love red wine, I love water, I love Champagne and I love… lemon water! After a few months of having some lemon water every day, all my clients can feel the difference. ALL OF THEM!

You haven’t tried it yet? You’re already addicted to this healing / protective / boosting / energising / slimming drink but want to know more? So let’s have a closer look at the 6 reasons why you should, just like me, enjoy your cup of delicious warm lemon water every morning.

Organic fresh lemons to make the best lemon water.

Organic fresh lemons to make the best lemon water.

It’s interesting to know that lemons originally come from Asia where they have been playing a central role as a digestive help and immune system booster for more than 2,500 years. They were introduced in Europe from the XIIth century and really started to be used in Western countries from the XVth century only.

As we’ll see at the end of the article, absolutely everything is good in lemons, zest and white bits included.

Let’s start with the lemon water, true healing and delicious food!

I love lemon water because it hydrates the body.

Hydration is critical for your health, for your skin and for weight loss.

Water lemon provides electrolytes and therefore contributes to greatly maximise hydration.

I love lemon water because it gives the most beautiful skin.

Lemon is super charged in vitamin C, the vitamin you’re looking for if you want to fight wrinkles and slow down the ageing process.

Lemon also helps eliminate toxins, which gives you the most beautiful glowing skin.

I love lemon water because it alkalises the body.

You can’t reclaim your health (and a healthy weight) if your body is not alkaline.

Even if lemon water has an acidic taste, it’s actually one of the best weapons to fight acidity in our body, one of the main causes of diseases related to our modern lifestyle, included excessive weight.

In my 3-week online program, Bonjour Summer, we extensively cover this very important topic: why you have an acidic body (just like 90% of us), what triggers acidity and what are my most delicious and easy ways to reduce acidity and get an alkaline body for vibrant health, optimum energy and weight loss (the program is filling fast. Be quick: enrolments are open until 21 October: more info HERE).

I love lemon water because it strengthens immunity.

Lemons are always on my grocery shopping list!

Lemon contains magnesium, iron, sulphur. It is also super rich in potassium, key mineral for brain health, kidney health and the nervous system, but also to regulate blood pressure. It is also highly anti-inflammatory, can help reduce asthma or other respiratory issues. Potassium help your body process iron, which strengthens the immune system.

High in vitamin C, flavonoids, vitamin B, vitamin E, lemon makes you stronger to prevent colds in winter.

In Asian traditions, lemon is used to reduce water retention and also mucus cough related to lung infection.

I love lemon water because it soothes pain.

Lemon has also be shown to sooth muscle and joint pain. It dilutes uric acid which can trigger join pain…

When I had issues with my shoulders and knees, my lemon water made with alkaline water made wonders as I reported in this previous article.

I love lemon water because it boosts weight loss.

Lemon boosts liver function, activates digestion, detoxifies, and is therefore one of your best allies if you want to lose weight…

It is part of the daily routine, weight loss techniques and delicious menu plans you’ll find in my 3-week online program Bonjour Summer.

How to make lemon water and when to have it.

I would recommend to add the freshly squeezed juice of  half a lemon to warm filtered water. Have it first thing in the morning and wait for another 20 minutes before having breakfast.

This daily dose is enough but if you like it, you can easily drink some throughout the day.

Never use already-made lemon juice. Often processed and sterilised: it has lost all its nutritional and healing benefits!

Don’t forget: everything in lemons is good for you!

The zest (always raw to keep all its benefits) is even more concentrated in nutrients than the juice. In particular pectins which help prevent cardiovascular diseases.

Everything is good in lemon: juice, zest and white bits.

Everything is good in lemon: juice, zest and white bits.

The white bits are very often discarded. Huge mistake! They have great anti-cholesterol and anti-inflammatory benefits, prevent brain vascular diseases and are likely to fight cancer as some recent research seem to show.

So when I make green smoothies (yes it happens, rarely, but it happens), I use the whole lemon as shown in this photo!

Convinced or comforted that lemon water is one of the best drinks ever to reclaim your health and lose weight? Ready to try? I can’t wait to know what you think.

Happy Friday and have a fabulous weekend.

Yves

  2. I have lemon water from time to time, but now that you have suggested it I will get back to it. From memory it did flush my system and deterred the dreaded constipation, me thinks.
    Ciao for now

  4. Can I substitute limes for the lemons, as I have a glut of them?

    • Hi Celia, yes you can as both are almost the same! However just 2 things to bear in mind:
      – lemons have slightly more health benefits as they contain almost twice as much vit C than limes.
      – As limes are often half the size as lemons, remember to double the amount of limes when you use them.
      I hope this helps.
